Messi offered a contract worth more than €400 million per year by Al Hilal – Romano
With each passing day, it seems like Lionel Messi is moving closer and closer to an exit from PSG in the summer. The 35-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season and reportedly has no intention to renew his deal, with a departure looking likely.
Barcelona have emerged as a potential destination for the Argentina captain, but he is also courting interest from clubs in the MLS as well as the Middle East.
And one of his suitors, Al Hilal have offered Messi an outrageous contract worth more than €400 million per year, reports Fabrizio Romano.
With Al Nassr roping in Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United earlier this year, their rivals Al Hilal have been pushing to make a marquee signing of their own and have their sights set on Messi.
And in order to make the transfer happen, they are ready to splurge an enormous salary in excess of €400 million per year for the former Barcelona captain.
However, Romano specifies that Messi is still continuing to prioritise staying in Europe as he wishes to keep playing at the highest level.
Meanwhile, Barcelona are waiting for clarity on their Financial Fair Play issues to open talks and send an offer to the seven-time Ballon d’Or as they wish to bring him back to the club for one last dance.
As for PSG, they have tabled a contract offer already, but the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner has not accepted it as he is seeking sporting guarantees from the French champions.
But with the relations between the two parties reportedly growing tense, an exit looks the likeliest possibility. And reports in France suggest that Messi is prioritising a return to Barcelona in the summer, with his family also favouring a move back to Catalonia.
So, despite Al Hilal’s crazy offer of a salary in excess of €400 million per year, Messi is unlikely to move to Saudi Arabia as things stand.
