BARCELONA STAR FRENKIE DE JONG HAS NO INTENTION OF REDUCING SALARY

Frenkie de Jong was arguably the most talked-about Barcelona player during the summer transfer window. The club, in an attempt to reduce their wage bill, and raise money through player sales, were trying their best to sell the Dutchman.

There was concern over de Jong’s salary, which nearly doubled this season, courtesy of an extension he received through Josep Bartomeu. However, at the end of the day, no offer was intriguing enough for the former Ajax man, on a mission to fulfill his dream at Barcelona.

Some revelations through the last month had revealed that de Jong was, after all, ready to enter talks with the board to reduce his salary. With little to no updates on that topic for a while now, Toni Juanmarti has reported that the player is not ready to cut his wages.

Further, de Jong is not ready to forgive his deferred wages from the last two years, either, and is looking to be paid in full till his contract ends in 2026.

Since Barça were unable to raise enough money through sales, they took a huge gamble by selling parts of their television revenue, and merchandising. However, that has largely failed as they sit third in their UCL group after defeats against Bayern Munich and Inter Milan.

As such, there have been reports that suggest that the Catalans will look to offload de Jong in January, with Manchester United and Chelsea still interested in his services.

“I always wanted to stay, although pressure came from all sides,” de Jong said in a recent interview.

It seems highly unlikely that the player’s stance will change in January, especially now that he has a clear run in the team with Sergio Busquets looking out of form.
