The La Liga president, the reason why UEFA was looking into the Negreira case.
FC Barcelona will now be the target of an inquiry by UEFA, as if the investigations and eventual accusations against them about their alleged involvement in the Enriquez Negreira payment scandal weren't enough.
The main soccer regulatory body in Europe recently declared that it would look into the Negreira issue to determine whether or not the rumors linking Barça to the entire incident are true.
According to Article 31.4, UEFA Ethics and Disciplinary Inspectors will look into a potential legal framework breach, the organization said in a statement.
Now, a new report from AS indicates that it appears La Liga was the one who brought the Negreira case to the European Union, which led to UEFA opening an investigation.
In order to request an investigation on Barcelona, the Spanish football association may even contact FIFA, the game's highest administrative body.
This comes after the Treasury in Spain, despite the payments paid to former vice-president of the referee's committee, Enriquez Negreira, discovered no evidence of referee manipulation from Barcelona.
Yet, La Liga's ongoing attempts to embarrass Barcelona are just another sign of the escalating hostility between the two sides and how the club's stance on the European Super League has prompted the Spanish football federation to tighten its scrutiny.
While recent sources indicate Joan Laporta may make a press conference in the month of April with all the facts and evidence in the club's favor, Barcelona has stayed largely mute on the subject.
