Pedri hopes to reach the Classic "at full strength"
The casualties are the great threat for FC Barcelona ahead of the Liga Clásico against Real Madrid, which on October 28 will host the Estadi Olimpic de Montjuïc for the first time. The latest to be injured was Pichichi Robert Lewandowski, whose participation in the most exciting game of the championship is on the forward. There is also the winger Raphinha in the infirmary, although as coach Xavi Hernández admitted after winning against style in Porto, the midfielders "who have the most ball in the squad" are missed, Frenkie de Jong and Pedro González 'Pedri'. The Canary Islands midfielder, however, stated in a chat with followers through the digital application 'The Residency' that he is confident of not failing the appointment. "If everything goes well, I will be at my best in the classic," he predicted.
Pedri is facing the final sprint of recovery from the injury he suffered while training to the rectus femoris of his right thigh on August 24. "I really want to go back; fortunately, everything has gone very well and I'm almost there," he said. Although there is already talk of the match in Montjuïc against Athletic, on the 22nd, as the probable date of his return to the field of play, a week before the visit of Real Madrid, Pedri did not specify as much but he did express a conviction. "Soon, after the break, I hope to be ready," he said.
Although Xavi Hernández did not mention their names explicitly after winning 0-1 at Do Dragao, admitting that they should have had more of the ball to better control the development of the Champions League match, it was evident that the culé coach was alluding to Pedri and De Jong. "Barça has a great squad and, no matter who plays, they always do a good job," Pedri commented humbly in the chat, who took some bad streak of injuries as a consequence of his job when asked how he did it to stay "positive". "There is no other option... We have to get up. Injuries are part of our job and we have to work hard to come back better," he concluded.
