A 20-year-old Barcelona midfield prospect might be on the market for just €9 million in January.
Just a few days after the summer transfer window closed, FC Barcelona is already being linked with potential January signings. Reports suggest the club is considering strengthening their midfield options, particularly for the pivot role as backup for Oriol Romeu. Names like Joao Palhinha, Florentino Luis, Jorginho, and Guido Rodriguez are already under consideration.
According to Roger Torello of Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona may explore more affordable options to bolster their pivot position. Two cost-effective options mentioned are Thiago Alcantara and Adrien Rabiot, both of whom have contracts expiring in 2024. Another name potentially on Barcelona's radar for the winter window is Fabricio Diaz of Liverpool Montevideo.
Fabricio Diaz, just 20 years old, serves as the captain of Liverpool Montevideo and boasts 100+ appearances for the Uruguayan team. He also led the Uruguayan U-20 national team to victory in the FIFA U-20 World Cup earlier this year.
While Diaz had drawn Barcelona's interest throughout the summer, no deal materialized due to other priority operations. However, with Barcelona now seeking a midfielder in January, Diaz could be an option, with reports suggesting he might be available for as little as €9 million.
Given his youth and potential, Diaz could potentially offer a long-term solution for Barcelona in the pivot midfield role. He could learn and develop under the guidance of Oriol Romeu, potentially taking over in the future. However, it's important to note that nothing is certain at this point, and the potential signing will depend on Barcelona's financial situation come January, particularly with regards to Financial Fair Play regulations.
