Deco extends his appreciation to the new signings at Barcelona for their willingness to make financial concessions.
FC Barcelona sporting director Deco has praised the attitude of the new signings as well as those on the current roster, saying that the team’s successful business in the summer transfer market was largely down to the players’ efforts.
The new sporting head closed the transfer market with the signings of Joao Felix and Joao Cancelo after having signed the likes of Ilkay Gundogan, Inigo Martinez, and Oriol Romeu.
It was Deco’s first assignment and he gave his all to bring in the targets.
Although the team from Catalonia had to take drastic decisions like the departures of Ansu Fati on loan and Ez Abde (permanently), the La Liga champions did recover from the loss.
Speaking after Barcelona’s recent 2-1 win over Osasuna, Deco shed light on several aspects. First up, he thanked the players for playing a huge role in making this transfer window successful.
Admittedly, “it has been a difficult market,” he was quoted by SPORT.

ー Official: Joao Cancelo, Joao Felix in Barcelona squad list to face Osasuna
“The players understood the role, that we needed their help and they did. Joao Cancelo and Félix follow this example, also our captain, Marc-Andre ter Stegen, who has renewed, helping with Financial Fair Play, and providing stability.
“It is important for players with this spirit, thanks to their efforts the signings have arrived,” he added.
It has emerged that Felix has cut his salary by 50% to join Barcelona while Cancelo is also believed to have reduced his wages by a significant amount.
Furthermore, Deco also spoke highly of Cancelo, saying, “he has a lot of experience, he is a mature player and he knows the moments of the games.”
“He is a player who brings competitiveness and quality. We always play with [Ronald] Araujo, [Jules] Kounde and we needed to have a player in this position,” he concluded.
Both Felix and Cancelo made their Barcelona debut yesterday against Osasuna and judging by the look of things, exciting things are expected from the Portuguese duo.
