The La Liga manager heaps praise on the Barcelona loanee, describing him as "among the finest."
On the summer transfer deadline day, Eric Garcia, a Barcelona defender, secured a loan move to Girona. The 22-year-old had slipped in the hierarchy at Barcelona and desired a temporary move to secure regular playing time.
Girona had always been the leading candidate to sign Garcia, despite some interest from Italian clubs. Eventually, late on deadline day, the loan deal was officially completed.
Eric Garcia, having joined his new club, has already commenced training and might be in contention for their upcoming match against Las Palmas on Sunday.
On the eve of the match, Girona's manager, Michel, spoke to the media and offered high praise for the Barcelona loanee and his contributions to the team.
Michel mentioned that the 22-year-old had always wanted to make the move to Girona, so there was no tension within the club despite the deal taking some time to finalize.
"I was calm; I had talked to Eric, and he was completely certain he wanted to come," Michel stated, as reported by Mundo Deportivo.
"We have Eric, who, in my opinion, brings us good football and is very important. He is a player of a caliber we cannot have unless the player genuinely wants to join us," he added.
When discussing what Eric Garcia brings to the team, Michel emphasized his versatility and his ability to initiate play from the back. He even went so far as to claim that the Spaniard is one of the best in the world when it comes to the latter aspect.
"Eric can excel in any defensive position, as well as in a pivot role. However, in my view, it's all about his ability to build up play and what he can offer us. In this regard, he ranks among the best players globally, and that's why we wanted him here," he remarked.
Xavi Hernandez, the Barcelona manager, also spoke to the media earlier today ahead of their match against Osasuna. During the conversation, the 43-year-old disclosed that he had preferred Garcia to stay and had attempted to convince him. However, Garcia's desire for regular playing time led him to request a move.
"He approached me and expressed his desire for a change of scenery, stating that he needed it. I tried to persuade him not to go, but due to fair play regulations, this transfer occurred," Xavi explained.
Now, it's up to Eric Garcia to make the most of his loan spell at Girona and work his way into Barcelona's plans for the following season.
